Eoghann, June 9, 2008 at 7:50 pm in General, TNA

A TNA crew worker who was helping to break down TNA's set fell 20 feet to the ground when some scaffolding collapsed. The incident occurred shortly after the PPV went off the air.

Local police and the fire department were called to the scene and the crew worker was rushed to Baptist DeSoto hospital in Southaven, MS, but the injuries he had sustained were too severe and he died shortly afterwards.

A second worker lost his thumb when the scaffold collapsed but is expected to recover fully.

The two men were standing at opposite ends of the same scaffolding taking down TNA's lighting from over the entrance stage according to the Southaven Police Department. Neither man worked directly for TNA, they were sub-contractors used by their production staff.

TNA has posted the following statement on their website:

A tragic accident following TNA's "Slammiversary" Pay-Per-View event at the Desoto County Civic Center in Southaven, Mississippi, resulted in the death of an employee of a TNA independent production contractor.

The accident occurred following the conclusion of the event as technical crews worked to disassemble the TNA set.

Currently, TNA is working in cooperation with local authorities to investigate the details surrounding the accident.

TNA is deeply saddened by this tragedy. We ask our fans across the world to join us as our thoughts and prayers are with the family in their time of loss.
